Notes from the UndergroundFyodor Doestoevsky

Footnotes from Underground is a 145 page novella written by Osonics'

"Unaltered" ego as a senior thesis to graduate from college. It

takes some of it's inspiration from John Gardner's Grendel

which retold the Epic of Boewolf from the monster's point of

view. Here the 'monster' is Apollon, the barely heard from

butler in Dotoevsky's short novel Notes from Underground.

The plight of the fictitious writer trying to tell Apollon's story

is also relayed.

Together these two stories flesh out the counter argument to

Brendan Kenneally's observation If you want to serve the age

betray it . Here the case is made if you want to betray the age

obey it.

A familiarity with the original Notes from the

Underground is helpful but not (quite?) essential for an

appreciation of:

Footnotes from Underground.
